Scholarship from the National Federation of the Blind of Louisiana

This year, five scholarships were be awarded to legally blind residents of Louisiana pursuing or planning to pursue a full-time post-secondary course of training or study in the fall of 2007.

The recipient of the top scholarship was awarded $1,500 and offered a trip, with paid transportation and room expenses, to Washington D.C. in February of the following year to aid in convincing legislators on Capitol Hill to do their part to improve quality of life for blind persons.

In addition, two scholarships were awarded in the amount of $750 each, and two in the amount of $500 each.

All winners were awarded expenses to attend the entire state convention of the National Federation of the Blind of Louisiana (NFBL).

Winners must attend the entire convention in order to be eligible for a scholarship. The 2007 convention was be held at The Quality Inn in New Orleans. A scholarship committee selects the recipients of the awards with approval of the NFBL Board.

Criteria: Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence, leadership ability, service to the community, and financial need. Applicants must be legally blind residents of Louisiana. Applicants must also be enrolled as full-time students of a post-secondary institution in the fall of the next academice school year. Previous winners are eligible for scholarships.

Membership: Recipients of these scholarships need not be members of the NFBL.
