Letter from the President
Dear Students:
This year has been a time of productivity and change for the Louisiana Association of Blind students. In March we hosted our annual spring seminar at the state convention of the NFB of Louisiana. At this seminar we heard from a variety of speakers covering a broad range of topics including campus involvement, rehabilitation services and much more. We were also fortunate to hear from Charlie Brown, treasurer of the National Federation of the Blind, who served as our national representative. At the close of our meeting we held elections. The results are as follows: President: Meleah Jensen
Vice President: Jessica Kostiw
Secretary/treasurer: Joanne Trann
Board Members: Jonathan Cagle and Chandra Scott
I look forward to working with the new board, and would like to thank the members of the outgoing board, especially Amber Chesser who served as LABS president last year, for doing such an outstanding job. All of you played a roll in the success of LABS, and each one of you will be missed greatly.
Now that state convention is behind us; we look forward to our national convention which will be held in Louisville, Kentucky in July. I look forward to seeing all of you there. We are also making plans for our fall seminar which will be held in Ruston in October. Watch your mailboxes and email for more information.
I hope that each of you enjoy the articles in this edition. I am sure that you will find them both informative and entertaining. I would like to thank everyone who made this edition possible, especially Amber Chesser for her assistance with the editing process. If any of you would like to submit an article please feel free to do so by emailing it to either Amber or myself at the above emails.
If you have any questions about LABS, or the NFB, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me and I will be glad to help in any way I can. I look forward to seeing all of you in Louisville this summer and then again at student seminar in the fall.
Sincerely,
Meleah H. Jensen
President, Louisiana Association of Blind Students.
