By Angela Grafton The 2007 convention of the National Federation of the Blind of Louisiana is scheduled for the weekend of March 30 through April 1. The Quality Inn at 2261 N. Causeway Boulevard, in Metairie, will be the headquarters hotel for this year's convention. Dr. Frederic K. Schroeder will serve as the representative from our national organization. Room rates for the convention are $70.00 per night for all rooms. You may make reservations with the hotel by calling 504-833-8211. Be certain that you tell the reservation staff that you are attending the NFBL convention so that you will be given our room rates. The deadline for reservations is March 8th. We are offering pre-registration once again this year. You may pre-register using printed forms. Or, you may go to our website at www.nfbla.org to complete the pre-registration process. If you need forms, call 800-234-4166 to request them. Pre-registration forms must be in no later than March 16th. Registering with the convention will entitle you to a free dinner on Friday evening, a free continental breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday morning, and a free lunch on Saturday afternoon. It will be necessary for you to purchase a banquet ticket for the planned meal on Saturday evening. You may purchase these tickets at the convention registration table, which will open at 3:00pm on Friday, March 30. Or, you may purchase them when you pre-register. Registration costs $15.00 per person, and banquet tickets are $20.00 each. Just prior to convention we will host Cradle to Career: ABCs of Blindness Conference, a two-day seminar for parents and teachers of blind children. The seminar is sponsored by the NFB of Louisiana in partnership with Louisiana Tech University and the Louisiana Center for the Blind. Workshop sessions will begin on Thursday, March 29, and continue through Friday, March 30. You may pre-register for this seminar at www.nfbla.org. For more information about the seminar, please contact the Louisiana Center for the Blind at 800-234-4166. Transportation will be provided to members who need it. We require a $15.00 deposit to hold a seat for those wishing to avail themselves of this service. The deposit will be returned to you after your arrival in Metairie .
